It’s come around again: the day you can swan into the cinema with a fiver and come back with change on a ticket, not by way of time machine, but thanks to National Cinema Day. All across the capital (and indeed, the whole country), cinemas will be slashing prices on all their films to ensure you have more money to spend on even more popcorn, since you can never have enough of that.
National Cinema Day takes place once a year, and means that you’ll be paying far less than usual on a trip to the film. It’s always a blast catching a film how it should be, but it can be an expensive trip out when you add ticket prices and snacks together. The annual day is a chance to relieve some of that pressure on the bank balance and still enjoy a day out at the big screen.
This Saturday (August 31), you’ll be able to get your tickers around the country to a film for just £4 a pop, which here in London means half price seats at the very least at the majority of cinemas. Use this site to find your nearest cinema that is taking part in the day, and then pick your film and enjoy it a heavy discount.
Cinemas taking part will come from familiar names including VUE, Odeon, Cineworld, Picturehouse, but there will also be independent screens taking part in the deals such as the Barbican Centre, Rich Mix Cinema in Bethnal Green, Peckhamplex, Arthouse in Crouch End, and Rio in Dalston.
What can I see on National Cinema Day?
There’s plenty on at the moment. Despicable Me 4 should be an unquestionable go-to shout for fans of all things cartoon; Deadpool & Wolverine will scratch that silly action superhero itch; and Alien: Romulus will provide another welcome addition to a lengthy franchise.
It Ends With Us, the adaptation of the Coleen Hoover novel is still running at cinemas, as is the Channing Tatum-starring Blink Twice and the spooky Nicholas Cage horror Longlegs.
Whatever your pick, you get them all on the cheap for National Cinema Day tomorrow. Cheers your popcorn to our cinemas.
