The burger is a simple thing: meat sandwiched inside a bun, perhaps with some toppings. And despite its simplicity, London’s burger vendors have done wild, wacky, and wonderful things with it. But according to the National Burger Awards, which recently announced the UK’s best burger, the simplest iterations reign supreme.
The National Burger Awards has been chomping its way across the country to crown the UK’s best burgers since 2015. And through the years, all manner of vendors have taken home the crown – ranging from cult favourites, to two-time winners (we’re looking at you, El Perro Negro and Bleecker).
But at this year’s ceremony, a surprising contender took home the win…
The UK’s best burger
None other than national burger brand, Honest Burgers, walked away from the ceremony with the win. The brand was awarded ‘National Burger of the Year’ for ‘The Honest’, which was exclusive to Honest Burger’s Smash + Grab site in Liverpool Street.
The meat-y creation, a smashed version of their signature burger, features a “dry-aged beef smashed burger with two patties, thick-cut Wiltshire bacon, homemade beef & onion relish, XL cheese, pickles and white onion.”

Now, following the win, Honest Burgers will be serving ‘The Honest’ at all of their restaurants across the country, for a limited time. From May 12 – June 15, you can try the UK’s best burger, simply by heading to your nearest Honest Burgers location.
Other winners at the National Burger Awards
There are more titles up for the grabs than just ‘best burger’ at the National Burger Awards. These eateries also took home special recognitions on the night:

- Bloggers’ Choice Award – El Perro Negro, with The Top Dog
- Plant-Based Burger of the Year – Cawsburger, with the Not a Cheesesteak
