Museum of London Docklands is inviting you to have a good ol’ Cockney knees up at the big Docklands street party next month to mark twenty years since the space first opened its doors.
The birthday bash will take place on Saturday June 10 and will run from 7pm-10pm, with the ceremonious ringing of St Mary-le-Bow’s church bells marking the museum’s big day. We’re talking three action-packed hours or good, old fashion East End fun including live performances, street food, pop-up bars, talks, workshops, film screenings, and after-hours gallery access.
The celebration will be anything but a drag with Drag Race royalty, Vanity Milan, headlining the festivities and hosting a pub quiz for visitors to flex their London knowledge and raise a glass to the iconic London museum. Vanity Milan says that she is “back and ready to serve the Museum of London Docklands sugar, spice and everything nice“.
You’ll have the chance to dance the night away with award-winning arts company, Hackney Showrooms, who will be providing the evening’s entertainment with the launch of their outdoor stage, the Bobby Dazzler.
Pay homage to some of East London’s most creative thinkers, makers, and crafters with a visit to the makers market. From homemade ceramics to jewellery and fine art, this market will be showcasing the very best small businesses that the East End has to offer.
The museum’s galleries will be staying open late for the occasion so that visitors can enjoy a range of curated talks, tours, and film screenings, and a variety of street food stalls and pop-up bars will be available for guests to stuff their faces with some delicious food and drink from the local area, including Jamaican patties and filled roti, rum cocktails, and craft beer.
Tickets are available online now for £20 (£13.50 for concessions), but twenty-year-olds across the country are in luck because not only have they not yet developed wrinkles, but they also get a special ticket price of just £12.
The street party is just one of many events running throughout the museum’s year-round anniversary programme, celebrating and exploring the history of London’s East End, because why only have a day to celebrate when you could have a whole entire year?
Other events throughout the year will include a queer beer crawl, a radical architecture walk, a mudlarking festival, a series of supper clubs, an evening to mark the 75th anniversary of the Windrush, and a scavenger hunt that will take visitors through key locations and museum objects, shining a light on lesser-known stories of the dock.
