Last week, the world of music went a little potty (as it does every year) when Spotify Wrapped fell into our phones and told us who we’d listened to the most. As is also tradition, the streaming site told us who had been listened to the most in the country, and now it’s Google’s turn to do the same, only this time for the most-searched.
After Taylor Swift took home the prize for being streamed the most on Spotify, can she make it a double victory through the release of The Tortured Poets Department and the success of the Era’s tour? The answer is… actually no! Another act, this time a group, took home the prize for the most searched musical act of the year in the United Kingdom. Drumroll, please…
Oasis.
It’s not difficult to pinpoint why this pair are right at the top of the list, with this being in contention for the biggest music reunion of all time (not to mention the ticketing debacle that followed!). They’re back and playing shows for the first time since 2009, and the scramble to get a spot quite literally broke the internet with the queuing system in disarray and the dynamic pricing debate looming large after the event.
Still – for those who did get tickets, it’s going to be quite the trip seeing Supersonic belted out by punters in their thousands.
Taking the number two spot was Sabrina Carpenter, who had the inescapable anthem Espresso fill our speakers, our phone screens, our heads ever since it came out in May – and released the hit factory that is Short n’ Sweet. The list also included Raye, who made history at the BRITs by taking home six awards; Chappell Roan, who has also lived in our heads with Good Luck, Babe! dropping this year; Linkin Park for another big reunion; and Cyndi Lauper because girls just want to have fun.
