When something is used as heavily and frequently as the Tube, people aren’t going to be shy about their opinions and, in this instance, will form a heavy, unshakeable alliance with their favourite line. Some of us with more spare time might have even spent time crafting the perfect argument on why our chosen train route beats out any of the others.
Now, the score is being settled by way of a YouGov survey of 1010 people, and the result is going to be celebrated by some, and cause continued dispute by others as the Elizabeth line has taken the title of the most popular Tube line in the city.
People are sure to take to the tables of pubs this evening to vehemently argue whether the newest kind on the block is actually a Tube line or something altogether different, but the purple line won fair and square with 67 per cent of those using it having a favourable opinion, with just four per cent carrying a negative one.
Are we counting the Elizabeth line as a Tube line? Technically, it is not, though it does fall under the same system as the other lines with stations that are Underground with the same fares as Zone 1 Tube. It falls under TfL’s bracket of ‘new mode of transport’ with trains holding a far bigger capacity than those on the Tube.
Coming in at second place is the London Overground, which has recently split off into six lines, with 52 per cent carrying a positive opinion and just 6 per cent of passengers having a negative view of the line. The DLR came in next, closely followed by the first definitely-a-Tube-line-with-no-argument Jubilee line and the speedy Victoria line. The Central line came at the bottom of the survey, with the Northern line and Bakerloo line just ahead.
The survey also asked which line is outright the BEST Tube line, with the Elizabeth line again coming top, but the Victoria line coming out second ahead of the Jubilee and Overground who tied in third place.
