Monaco is no doubt an iconic destination for sun-seekers, dedicated F1 fans and those who favour a lavish lifestyle. Sitting snug between towering mountains and the Mediterranean sea, it not only promises a nature-wrapped haven to indulge in Michelin-starred dining and try your luck in the world-famous casino, but, on July 17 and 18, it will offer a swanky front row seat to the E1 Series.
This is the fourth race of the season, following wins from Steve Aoki’s team in January and Will Smith’s team in both April and June, so the competition is well and truly heating up. You can expect to see exhilarating scenes as the celebrity-backed teams face off on a mission to become champions. Who will be next to lift the trophy?
What is the E1 Series?
Often referred to as the ‘Formula 1 of the seas’, the E1 series is an all-electric powerboat racing competition which takes innovative and sustainable actions to evolve marine motorsport. The use of electrification ensures that these adrenaline-spiking races and the marine ecosystems of Monaco can coexist, with steps such as silenced racing and zero emissions also helping work towards their goal of coastal habitat restoration. Plus, the hydrofoil technology of the electric RaceBird boats also causes less drag in the water, which means less disruption to the shores and the aquatic life that lies beneath the surface
Gender equality is also the name of the game here. This is the first world championship to dictate that the teams are mixed gender, with the male and female pilots having to share equal driving times to compete.
The E1 Series is sustainable and star-studded in equal measure, with all the teams backed by famous faces from the worlds of sport, cinema, music and more. You could find yourself rubbing shoulders with the likes of Rafael Nadal, Will Smith, Steve Aoki, Tom Brady and Marc Anthony as they support their teams and cheer them on from the shoreline.
What can you expect on race day?
A spectacular fusion of festival vibes, luxury dining and thrilling sport, it’ll be no surprise that race day in Monaco, a city synonymous with elite sporting events, is sure to be one to remember. You’ll get to watch ten crews battle it out full-throttle on the turquoise waters, with live commentary reporting on every strategic turn, rapid acceleration and wild splash so you don’t miss a second. The experience doesn’t end there, you can also enjoy entertainment, concerts and meet-and-greets with the teams throughout the weekend.
What tickets are available?
There are three different types of tickets to pick from: the E1 Ocean Club Hospitality Area, situated in the Monaco Yacht Club, for VIP benefits, behind-the-scenes access and fine dining. The Bring Your Own Boat option, to watch the action from your own beloved vessel, or the Fan Zone, to spectate with fellow fans in a buzzing atmosphere.
How to get there?
You’ll need to book a flight from London to Nice Côte d’Azur Airport (NCE), which is typically a 2-hour journey. Once you’ve landed, you can opt for a taxi or train to take you the final 30km into Monaco.
