Looking for things to do with the kids in London this Easter holiday already? Well, South Londoners (or anyone else willing to make the trip), Centrale & Whitgift Shopping Centre has partnered with Croydon BID to bring a free, family-friendly Minecraft event to the hub this Easter.
Between April 14–20, children will be able to unleash their energy with bungee runs, a brick pit, and more at Mine Time – The Easter Challenge. Inspired by the world of Minecraft, and A Minecraft Movie being released a week or so prior, this Croydon adventure is enough to wear out the little ones after an afternoon spent Easter shopping.
In the bungee run, participants will have just 60 seconds to collect as many coloured blocks as possible, while strapped to a bungee cord; prizes will go to the winners in each age category. For something a little less energy expensive, the brick pit will encourage creative minds to craft their own masterpieces, and partake in building challenges.
“We’re thrilled to support this exciting initiative with Centrale and Whitgift Shopping Centres and can’t wait to see the joy it brings to Croydon town centre,” said Matthew Sims, Chief Executive Officer of Croydon BID.
Minecraft is taking over London
If this Minecraft experience sounds like something you’d love, then we should also point you in the direction of Minecraft Experience: Villager Rescue. The experience, coming to Canada Water’s newest exhibition venue, Corner Corner, opens on the same day as the Minecraft film release (April 4), and takes the immersive angle to a whole new level. It’ll be sticking around after the Easter Holidays, so you can continue to get your Minecraft fix in the coming months.
You’ll quite literally step into the game, as you use a state-of-the-art ‘Orb of Interaction’ – a reactive cube that picks up your real movements and incorporates them into a projected Minecraft world – to interact with cave spiders, creepers, and skeletons; and complete tasks as you move through biomes. The ultimate goal is to save the villagers who have been turned into zombies, and it is essentially an interactive scavenger hunt to find the tools to do so. The technology is set to be totally intuitive, and the set design very cool.
