Sure, if you’re looking for a fine chaser of whisky in Central London, you could go for the hot new thing. But you could (and perhaps even should) go for the oldest, the most experienced of whisky specialists in the city. And that very title goes to Milroy’s Of Soho, which celebrates 60 years of serving up the finest tipples on Greek Street.
Coinciding with this rather impressive milestone, Milroy’s has decided to give a wee makeover to its bar and whisky shop, as well as the popular subterranean bar below known as The Vaults, where visitors must peek beneath a bookshelf to gain access.
Milroy’s Of Soho’s Revamp
You will have to take a small sabbatical from visiting Milroy’s Of Soho during its revamp, but it promises to be worth the wait. The site has been temporarily closed since the start of the year, but it looks set to open up its doors (and bookshelves) up in the early summer.
Visitors have been told to expect the same warmth upon arrival, both through greeting and great tasting, expertly crafted whisky, but all inside a space that is both sleeker and more modern. The first thing regulars are certain to notice is the bar being in an entirely different place; moved away from its usual spot on the left as you come in. This will allow for a new space to be made for tastings and further retail displays, and giving more room for more whisky drinkers.
Excitingly, Milroy’s will also be expanding into the space upstairs, which will even be offered up to guest as a space that can be rented out for private tasting experiences.
Speaking on the milestone and refurbishment, Stephen Worral, managing director at Milroy’s said: “To mark the 60th anniversary year it is time to improve our offering and service in our iconic Soho bar and shop. We’re committed to reinvesting back into our home and nurturing what makes Milroy’s special while evolving our space to keep it relevant for the modern whisky drinker.
“It’s an incredibly exciting chapter for us ahead of our big anniversary celebration in November. Reopening in early summer will be a milestone moment in our special year.”
There is no set date for when the new look Milroy’s will fling open its doors again, but be sure to keep an eye on their social for the big reveal.
Once it’s reopened, you’ll find Milroy’s Of Soho over at 3 Greek Street, W1D 4NX.
