On the evening of October 29, Melanie C performed live in a magnificent Candlelight concert at the iconic St Paul’s Cathedral. Brought to you by HSBC UK in support of Shelter, 100% of ticket proceeds from the concert will be donated directly to Shelter. HSBC UK and Shelter are working together to help people build financial resilience – support that can make a difference when the unexpected happens.
The setlist at Candlelight: Melanie C featured over ten tracks, including some Spice Girls classics. Before the big day, we met up with Melanie C for a quick chat to find out more about why supporting Shelter is important to her.
Secret London: Why are you working with Shelter?
Melanie C: Shelter is an incredible charity, I’ve worked with them many times over the years and homelessness is something that nobody should have to face. That’s why it’s so important to me to be working with Shelter.
Secret London: What does home mean to you?
Melanie C: Home to me is safety, security, somewhere to be warm, somewhere to be safe. I travel so much in my work, and I always want to get home to where my family are. Everybody deserves that.
Secret London: You’re no stranger to performing at iconic London venues – tell us a bit about that…
Melanie C: I was lucky enough to perform at some really iconic venues with the Spice Girls. We filmed “Wannabe” at St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, and did performances at renowned venues like Wembley Stadium. I’ve also performed at the Royal Albert Hall on various occasions which was really special!
Secret London: Last year HSBC UK and Shelter hosted their concert at the Natural History Museum, where would you love to perform next?
Melanie C: Having the opportunity to perform at St Paul’s Cathedral in this very intimate performance is so special for me. And performing with a string quartet is going to make it even more magical, I’m truly honoured and can’t wait to see you all there!
