It should come as no surprise to Secret London readers that we’re big fans of Marugame Udon. Having spread quickly throughout the capital, the udon eateries are just as renowned for their delicious food as they are for giving it all away through unique competitions. And to launch their newest branch, in Waterloo, they’ve got a doozy of a competition for udon fans. It all boils down to this: keep a Tamagotchi alive for as long as possible. The longer you keep it alive, the more prizes you win!
Tamagotchi and udon?
Yup, that’s right, those delightful toy pets from the late 90’s are playing an integral part in the giveaway. The udon chain has partnered with Bandai themselves for it, giving away 100 special Marugame issued Tamagotchi Original digital pet toys to keep alive in exchange for Marugame Udon club card prizes. To grab one of the special issue toys, you’ll have to be one of the first 100 Marugame Udon club card members to buy a breakfast item at the Waterloo venue’s Grand Opening Day. That’s on January 12, so be sure to jot that down in your diary or make a note on your calendar!
If participants can keep their Tamagotchi alive for one week, then the owner will be rewarded with a free breakfast item. Keep an eye on that digital pet, though, and keep it alive for 28 days and you’ll win free breakfast for a year! You can find all the details of the competition here.
Marugame Udon at Waterloo
The Waterloo branch of Marugame Udon will mark the eatery’s eighth London location, one of over 1250 sites globally. It’s also the first Marugame Udon to offer up breakfast – making it all the more convenient for commuters and travellers visiting the restaurant right inside Waterloo’s main station. On the menu will be their usual typical array of chewy noodle-y delights, delicious broths, and flavoursome tempura dishes.
But it’s that breakfast menu that you’ll want to check out at the Waterloo Marugame Udon. They’ll be offering dine in and takeaway options ranging across Udon breakfast specials, sandos, and breakfast tempura. Try out the Benedict Udon or Florentine Udon for noodle-packed takes on brunch classics, or the Salmon and Rice Bowls or Porridge to grab and go if you’re in a rush. Oh, and definitely grab a Japanese-style Sando for a quick but completely satisfying fix. They’ll be offering such fillings as Katsu & Bacon, Streaky Bacon & Tamagoyaki Egg, Japanese Pork Sausage & Egg, and Spinach & Miso Tofu. We simply can’t wait to get our mouths around them!
