Mad Cool is the festival of 2019 and—bonus!—it doubles up as the perfect summer holiday.
Rally the troops and swap your wellies for flip-flops*, for Mad Cool is a festival experience quite unlike anything you’ll ever see on British soil. And not only because there’s a significantly lower chance of rain!
First of all, the line-up is KILLER. We’re talking The Cure, Bon Iver, Vampire Weekend, The Chemical Brothers, The National, Smashing Pumpkins, Eric Prydz, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Noel Gallagher, The 1975 and so much more. It’s basically a mecca for music lovers of all kinds.
Another bonus is that the music doesn’t start until about 6pm each evening, so you can spend the day napping, sunbathing and day drinking — just as you would on your ordinary holidays. The very things you dream of doing at a British festival, but can’t without missing your favourite acts. (I learnt this at Reading Fest 2011 and I still regret it to this day.)
As there isn’t a campsite at the festival, you won’t be tempted to hang around your tent all day drinking warm ciders and box wine. In fact, it means you’re practically forced to explore the glorious city of Madrid. But that’s exactly what makes this festival MAD COOL! Sure, a city break combined with a festival sounds equal parts excellent and exhausting, but all the tapas and sangria will perk you up.
Taking place from July 11-13, Mad Cool is well worth a trip to the Spanish capital. We’ve got tickets on Fever for just £155 and, if you’re any good at Spanish, our friends at Madrid Secreto can provide some inspiration for filling those sunny days.

*not actually recommended festival footwear, I was just making a point.
