Travelling between London and Glasgow via train is usually quite expensive, with many passengers choosing to fly rather than travel on the ground. However, Lumo is introducing a more affordable train service soon, linking Glasgow and London via the East Coast of the UK.
The popular open-access train operator Lumo, which is already operating between Edinburgh and London, is introducing a new train service between Scotland’s biggest city and the capital.
The new route is getting extended to Glasgow Queen Street Station in December of this year, also stopping at Falkirk High and Newcastle.
What is more, advance tickets to London in 2026 start from just £33.90 booking directly with Lumo, while advance tickets between Glasgow and Newcastle start from just £10.90.
To celebrate the news, Lumo has teamed up with Glasgow broadcaster Bev Lyons to launch a special social media competition during the annual National Customer Service Week. Winners can snag multiple prizes across the North East of England, including a luxury hotel stay in Newcastle and an exclusive train driver simulator experience.
Lumo has been operating for a number of years with its cross-country service, offering sustainable travel with its 100% electric trains. Onboard, guests can enjoy a single-class journey, “which puts everyone in the ‘good seats’ with optimised leg room and extendable tray tables that can take a full-sized laptop”. As an open-access train operator, the company does not receive any government funding and is currently operating a five-train fleet built by Hitachi.
