It’s puns on the run with these wonderfully witty places.
Much to your (hopefully) continued delight, Secret London loves puns. So when we found these punderful places to eat, drink, shop, or simply laugh at, we knew it was high time for a roundup.
1. Planet of the Grapes
Discovered by Georgie Hoole.
Wine and dine at this wonderful restaurant and wine bar, with locations all over London. The menu is full of sharing plates and absolutely-not-for-sharing plates, making it the perfect place for an intimate dinner or larger gatherings.
2. Fishcoteque
Discovered by Georgie Hoole.
Let’s go! Let’s go! Fishcotheque! We’ve seen some creative fish and chip shops in our time, but this has to be one of our favourites. Fun fact! In the 80’s, a jazz band called the Jazz Butchers made an album called “Fishcotheque” and put the shopfront on its cover.
79A Waterloo Road, SE1 8UD
3. Fuckoffee
Discovered by Georgie Hoole.
Fuckoffee is a less-than-polite little indie coffee shop in Bermondsey with rude mugs and fantastic cups of joe.
163-167 Bermondsey Street, SE1 3UW.
4. Barber Streisand
Not just a fantastic place for a mop chop, but also one of the many charming reasons to visit Exmouth Market. If you can wander past with immediately humming THAT song to yourself, you’re a better person that I.
5. Perky Blenders
Bringing top puns and great coffee to the people of northeast London, Perky Blenders source most of their coffee from South America. As far as I can tell, the Perky Blenders don’t wear hats, so you don’t need to be skittish about visiting.
6. The Codfather
Discovered by Georgie Hoole.
Simple but effective, this fish and chip shop is like no other. For starters, their food is excellent. But more importantly, they have a fantastic name.
206 London Road, Croydon, CR0 2TE
7. Jack The Clipper
Cutthroat puns from this chain of barbers. You’ll find them dotted around East London with razors sharpened, promising to “just take a little off the top”…
8. Nincomsoup
If you’ve ever been to Old Street station, you’ll have probably enjoyed this one before. Come for the puns, stay for the soup.
Saint Agnes Well 7-8, EC1Y 1BE.
9. Turn’em Clean
This one is only funny if the shop is in Turnham Green. Which is it, meaning that this dry cleaner’s puns are wonderfully iron-ic.
11 Bedford Road, W4 1LS.
10. Sellfridges
Discovered by Georgie Hoole.
Unfortunately this place is no longer around, but we couldn’t bear to leave it out. 10/10 for hilarity, for sure.
