Beneath the tourist scrum of Camden Market, where the smell of jerk chicken mixes with dubstep bass and everyone’s haggling over the same leather jacket, there’s a portal to another planet hiding in plain sight.
Duck down an escalator on Castlehaven Road and the market noise disappears, replaced by neon lights, waving alien mascots, and the unmistakable clatter of a rollercoaster doing laps somewhere beneath your feet.
This is Babylon Park, London’s first underground theme park, and it’s been quietly running one of the most surreal days out in the capital since 2022.

Three floors, one entire planet
Babylon Park isn’t some pop-up gimmick tucked into a corner of Camden Market.
It’s a proper three-storey, space-themed amusement park built entirely beneath street level, at 8 Castlehaven Road, just a short walk from Camden Town station.
The ground floor greets you with reception and a sweets shop, the mezzanine houses a restaurant and soft play, but it’s the basement where things get properly intergalactic: a full performance stage, a run of amusement rides, hundreds of arcade games, and a winner’s station stacked with prizes.
The whole thing is themed around little green aliens, and the visuals lean fully into it, think UFOs suspended from the ceiling, bubble-lettered signage that glows like a lava lamp, and enough neon to make you forget there’s a whole city carrying on above your head.
London’s only indoor rollercoaster
Here’s the headline attraction, quite literally: Babylon Park is home to London’s only indoor rollercoaster, a family-friendly ride that spirals down through a lift hill, a downward helix that wraps around the park’s drop tower, a final hill, and a 180-degree turn back to the station, all across four laps.
It’s not designed to rival Alton Towers, but strapped in underground with the ceiling inches above your head, it delivers a genuinely disorientating thrill that punches well above its size.
Beyond the coaster, the ride roster keeps building the case for a full day out:
- A drop tower that plunges riders from a genuine height, right in the middle of the basement floor
- Bumper cars for chaotic, driving-license-optional showdowns
- An alien-themed convoy ride and a spinning teacup-style attraction drenched in UV colour
- A carousel and kiddie wheel for the smallest visitors
- VR experiences that drop you into entirely different worlds, headset and all
Most rides carry a 105cm height restriction, so it’s worth knowing before you promise the little ones a go on everything.
Hundreds of games and a whole lot of nostalgia
If the rides are the headline act, the arcade floor is where people actually lose track of time.
There’s a supersized Hungry Hungry Hippos built for adults who never quite got over their childhood grudges, foam axe-throwing for anyone feeling competitive, air hockey tables, dance machines, claw machines stacked with plush prizes, and VR pods that swap Camden for a jungle crawling with giant spiders.
It’s the kind of arcade floor where a five-minute visit turns into two hours without anyone quite noticing.
Getting in and what it’ll cost you
Entry to Babylon Park is free, and once inside you can choose between a pay-as-you-go coin system or an unlimited card (starting from £26.25) covering every ride and game for a set window of time, typically one or two hours.
Tickets start from around £8.75 and can be bought online via Fever or on the door, subject to availability.
The park runs seven days a week: Monday to Friday and Sunday from 10am to 9pm, and Saturdays from 10am to 10pm.
It’s fully air-conditioned, wheelchair accessible throughout (though not all individual rides are), and there’s a dedicated pram section if you’re bringing a buggy along.
Coat check is free, pets are welcome, and food is available on-site at the Ovo & Neta restaurant on the mezzanine floor as well!
