London’s had a couple of nice heatwaves already this year, but they haven’t quite been blessed with the gift of staying power. Sure, the hottest day of the year and the few days bookending it last month were lovely and all, but they seemed to disappear rather quickly.
July has started promisingly, though, with some toasty mid-20°Cs blessing London. But, things are about to crank up a notch at the end of this week and heading into the next, with a marvellous heatwave incoming.
Put this way, it’ll be less torrential rain horrible, and more sunbathing in the park brilliant starting on Friday (July 8), with a sweet one-two punch of 28°C and 27°C in consecutive days heading into the weekend.
But, next week is where we’ll start to really feel the heat, with temperatures exceeding that of Balearic paradise Ibiza. According to BBC Weather, the temperature in London will be at least 30°C for a six day hot streak, between Monday (July 11) and Saturday (July 16). On Tuesday and Wednesday, with a toasty 31°C, London will officially be 1°C warmer than Ibiza. I’m sure everyone there will definitely be reading this, fists clenched and in a rage, and definitely not enjoying their beautiful setting. Definitely.
And, the fun doesn’t even end there, with the warm days predicted to stick around into the following week, albeit in the late 20°C mark. We won’t bet on it staying that way throughout the whole summer; after all, we aren’t blessed with a Mediterranean climate; but it’s a start.
Still, we won’t go rebranding London as a party island by the sea just yet, but we will suggest getting the barbecues out this evening and not putting them away for the foreseeable. Oh, and remember your picnic blankets when you head out for am evening beverage in the park. Hopefully, this is just the start, and the heatwaves continue throughout the summer. May the odds be in our favour!
