To say the weather has been a little stop-start in London this summer would be both something of an understatement and putting it in kinder terms. In short: there’s been a lot of rain and cooler temperatures than many would hope for.
But. But! There is a twist in this tale; London summers wouldn’t let you out of its grasp without some kind of story, would it? At least one beyond the drizzling monotonous grey picture that has been playing out in past weeks.
No; there’s some variety coming up – London will now be hotter than Ibiza this weekend as temperatures rise to 32°C on Friday, leading us right into the uneasy category of a mini-heatwave. It’s a spell of unusually hot weather that will come and go quite quickly, but leave us sweltering for the hottest of minutes either way.
According to the Met Office, temperatures are reaching an almost-violent 29°C tomorrow (July 18) before Friday’s actually-violent 32°C knocks us off our feet and places us in ‘hotter than Ibiza’ territory.
As for the rest of the weekend, we’ll be back to 29°C by the looks of it by Saturday (still hotter than ‘Beefa’), before falling to 24°C on Sunday, allowing normal order to resume and plonk London behind Ibiza in the pecking order of HEAT. That sun-kissed island will have to settle for a losing three-pronged attack of 27-28-27°C from Thursday-Saturday, meaning we have a few sweet days of bragging in between getting up to change the fan setting and trying to stay cool through any means possible.
Get those barbecues out for the gardens and practice your best frisbee throws in the park in preparation for a trip to the park on a warmer day when the mini-heatwave hits. We’ve got to make the most of it while it’s here otherwise all the moaning for warmer, brighter weather this summer will have been in vain.
