Earlier this year, London was named as the best food destination in the world, and images of Borough Market, gastropubs, a Brick Lane curry, or an afternoon tea may spring to mind. But London’s culinary scene has another jewel to add to its crown.
We might associate New York with having the best burgers, but according to Upper Cut Media, the brains behind the World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants ranking, a London restaurant has been crowned as having the best burger in the world.
Bleecker Burger takes the number one spot
What began as a food truck in 2012, Bleecker Burger was started by a self-confessed “loud-mouthed American” who was inspired by the best burger he’d ever tasted in New York at Zaitzeff, an East Village burger joint.
In 2015, Bleecker opened their first kiosk in Spitalfields Market and quickly expanded their operation. In 2017, the operation evolved to a 20-seater takeaway site in Victoria and a 30-seater site in the Bloomberg building.
Today, they have eight locations in London: Spitalfields, Victoria, Bloomberg, Westfield, London Bridge, Seven Dials Market, Baker Street, Soho.
A signature beefy flavour
You might be wondering how the Bleecker brand expanded so rapidly from its humble beginnings, and there’s no doubt that its impressive flavours are the reason behind it all.
Bleecker proudly proclaim that the key to a good burger is “all about the beef” and they use rare-breed, grass-fed beef from independent UK farms to ensure the taste is top of the range. The beef is then aged on the bone for 25-40 days, which gives the meat a beefier flavour.
And it’s not just the beef that makes these burgers so special. The buns are baked daily in London and fries are cooked when you order them. It’s not hard to see why the Bleecker burger has topped the charts for the world’s best burger.
This burger beat out foodie favourites from all over the globe, including New York, Copenhagen and Hong Kong. Here are the top 10 burgers from across the globe:
