Summer may be coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean that our holiday plans have to stop. In fact, if you’re anything like me, you’ll always have a trip booked in as something to look forward to.
However, for even the most avid traveller, knowing the rules around the liquid limits in hand luggage can be a little confusing. For Londoners, there are many airports to choose from, including Heathrow, Luton, Stansted, City, Gatwick, Southend and perhaps even a new airport coming in 2029, so keeping up with each airport’s rules becomes quite the task.
The 100ml rule was only supposed to be a temporary measure, but has become more a travel staple in recent years, however more and more airports are changing the rules as they advance
We reported at the beginning of this year that Heathrow had dropped the 100ml limit, thanks to technology upgrades in their security system, but now we’ve got the full rundown for you to make things a little easier next time you travel.
London airports with the 100ml liquid rule in place
- Stansted Airport
- Luton Airport
- London City Airport
Liquids do not need to be separated and can be kept in bags at the above airports.
London airports that no longer have the 100ml liquid rule in place
- Gatwick Airport, although liquids should not be in metal or double-walled containers.
- Southend Airport
- Heathrow Airport, if you’re carrying a reusable metal or insulated bottle, empty it before you reach security.
At these airports, liquids up to 2 litres can be taken in hand luggage.
Something to note: these rules impact flights leaving the above London airports, and many airports around the world are yet to upgrade their technology at security checks in airports, so passengers must check restrictions from other airports on their journey.
