This summer, dinosaurs will no longer just be those prehistoric creatures from a land before time or the awe-inspiring beasts only seen on the big screen. Jurassic World: The Exhibition is bringing all the ferocious favourites and gentle giants to life in present day reality, giving you the chance to see them up close like never before. Taking place at ExCel London from August 25, the fascinating experience is a journey into the blockbuster film franchise – meeting adorable baby dinos, visiting the Hammond lab and facing off with the formidable raptors – you’ll think you have stepped through the screen and into the wilderness of Isla Nublar.
Prepare to leave behind the concrete streets of the city as you enter through the gargantuan gates of Jurassic World. Inside, you’ll find a prehistoric paradise, with ferns sprouting from every nook and cranny, rumbling roars echoing throughout the cavernous space and golden-yellow eyes glinting in the shadows. It’s all the wonder of the film with none of the peril (and, alas, no Jeff Goldblum). Luckily, the bare-chested meme-maker will be the last thing on your mind once you enter Jurassic World: The Exhibition.
Whether you’re looking to indulge your inner child who collected toy dinosaurs and had daydreams of being a palaeontologist, or you’re treating your own dino-obsessed kids to an exciting day out, this exhibition is sure to be a memorable experience. You’ll not only get to come face to face with the deadly grin of the Indominous Rex and test your nerve meeting the ruthlessly intelligent occupants of the raptor enclosure but, if you decide you need more teeth, you’ll get your fix when you see the incredible Tyrannosaurus Rex in all her hulking glory.
Once you’ve had your thrills from all the teeth and talons, there’ll be plenty of chances to discover the slightly less hair-raising inhabitants of the exhibition. There’s an unmissable chance to recreate the iconic Jurassic Park head-swivel scene as you gaze up at a towering brachiosaurus, or, you can swap awe-stricken gasps for heart-melting ‘awhs’ with a visit to the adorable baby dinos. You’ll even get to take a selfie with little Bumpy, the Ankylosaurus from Camp Cretaceous.
Of course, there’d be no Jurassic World without the work of the geneticists and that pivotal mosquito – the secret to the recreation of dinosaurs – trapped in fossilised tree resin for centuries. You can discover the science behind it all in Hammonds Creation Lab. Plus, you’ll even get to see some tiny parasaurolophus babies in their incubator while you’re there. Jurassic World: The Exhibition is an experience like no other that all the family can enjoy, and, with the October half-term fast approaching, you’ll want to book your tickets now to grab a spot.
