The UK’s First Ever Geothermal Lido Is Now Open

It’s out with the cold and in with new at Jubilee Pool in Cornwall, as this geothermal heated lido is now open.

Autumn is definitely on its way, but don’t pack away your swimming costumes just yet, as Jubilee Pool is bringing all the heat. This is the UK’s first ever geothermally-heated lido, and it’s located right by the beach in Penzance, Cornwall. [Featured image: Jubilee Pool]

Jubilee Pool is both the largest outdoor pool, and the only lido to be heated by geothermal energy, in the UK. Using heat from underground hot water springs, this seawater pool will keep you nice and warm at a temperature of 35 degrees celsius. Gone are the days when the weather would stop you from living your best life, this sensory experience can be enjoyed come rain or shine. And with views of the beautiful tidal island St Michael’s Mount to hand, this outing will have you questioning whether you’re still in England.

This art deco lido has a unique triangular shape and is divided into three sections. You’ll find a learners’ pool, a large main pool, and the new geo pool that opened at the beginning of September. And the news doesn’t stop there; after a huge regeneration project, the Jubilee Pool has new changing facilities and a brand new cafe with a cocktail-filled happy hour. So if you work up a sweat during your swim, there’ll be plenty of refreshments nearby.

Social distancing guidelines are naturally in place to ensure the safety of all guests, therefore the capacity of the geothermal pool is limited from fifty to fifteen until further notice. Nevertheless, Jubilee Pool is looking to the future with ‘geothermal and fizz’, ‘geothermal and dine’, and spa packages on the cards.
