We’ll never stop telling everyone about how much we love cycling in London. It is a city with so much hidden scenery and beautiful places to discover. But we also appreciate that it might not be something you get to do often, if you haven’t built up your confidence yet. This summer, we’re working with TfL to encourage Londoners to get on their bikes (or hire a Santander Cycle!) and explore the city on a Sunday. As part of our partnership, we enlisted the help of the award-winning female cycling collective, JoyRiders, to host a group Sunday cycling event.
JoyRiders are on a mission to get more women and girls on bikes, by helping them gain confidence with free to join cycling events. Their events are ages and ability inclusive, so whether you’re a total beginner or you just want to get some practice in, there will definitely be a group ride suitable for you. So naturally, JoyRiders was the perfect fit for our Cycle Sundays cycling event!
The cycle started in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, with plenty of East London landmarks to check out along the way – from ArcelorMittal Orbit and the Wetlands Walk to the Great British Gardens and Hackney Marshes. It was great to see so many women getting on their bikes and gaining more confidence as cyclists whilst exploring the city – and the feedback was a testament to just how fab a TfL Cycle Sunday is!
“That was so much fun, I’m now feeling really confident and I just loved being on the bike”
“I feel amazing, and much more confident – It’s such a great way to spend your Sunday”
You can see the route we took here on Strava if you want to plan your own Sunday cycle ride. Plus, we’ve already rounded up some of our favourite cycle routes across the city, if you’re in need of more Cycle Sunday inspo.
