Crack the whips and scale those toppling bridges: Indy is back, and to celebrate the release of the fifth installment in the series, Harrison Ford has been cast in bronze. An Indiana Jones statue has just popped up in Leicester Square, ahead of the release of the ‘Dial Of Destiny’ in UK cinemas today (June 28).
Indiana Jones’ statue comes as part of the film premiere of the movie, which stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge alongside Harrison Ford, who is still going strong in the role of Indy at the age of 80.
Making up the sculpture trail of sculptures at ‘Scenes in the Square’, the Indiana Jones statue can be found performing his trademark whip-cracking pose that has become so recognisable in the world of cinema. In true Indiana Jones style, the intrepid hero is also surrounded by boulders and fauna.
Following the premiere, visitors can find the bronze creation of Mr Ford throughout the summer on Europe’s busiest pedestrian walkway (the north terrace of Leicester Square) — the perfect place to hide in plain sight!
Mark Williams, Director of Destination for Heart of London Business Alliance, spoke about the statue and said: “We are beyond thrilled to welcome Indiana Jones to the Scenes in the Square trail, honouring the character’s major part in cinema history since 1981 and cementing Harrison Ford’s status as a movie icon.”
“The dynamic statue trail is a true celebration of entertainment and there are few more worthy inclusions than the legendary Indiana Jones. Taking pride of place on Leicester Square’s bustling north terrace and unveiled on the nationwide release of his fifth cinematic adventure, Indy promises to be a hugely popular addition to the Square.”
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is the fifth installment of the franchise created by Steven Spielberg all the way back in 1981, when Raiders Of The Lost Ark first hit the screens.
‘Scenes in the Square’ is made up by eight other icons from over the past 100 years. Indiana Jones joins the likes of Harry Potter, Laurel and Hardy, Gene Kelly, Paddington, Mary Poppins and more legendary characters scattered around. Just imagine if they all joined forces.
