Getting creative with ways to keep the kids entertained over the school holidays can be tricky, especially when you’re not looking to break the bank. But this summer IKEA have you sorted.
Across their London branches, IKEA’s Summer Funhouse programme will offer a jam-packed schedule of activities. So check out your nearest branch and find out what fun they have in store. You can also scoop up some great food and homeware offers while you’re there!
It wouldn’t be British summer without plenty of mouth-watering food to fill our bellies. And IKEA has come through with some great offers so you can enjoy tasty treats right through the holidays.
Visit before September 3 and snap up any kids meal from the children’s menu for 95p! Or make it a combo meal with jelly, a soft drink and a pieve of fruit for only £1.50. And it wouldn’t be a trip to IKEA without some of their signature meatballs. Tuck into meatballs or plant balls with pasta and tomato sauce for only £3.95, every weekday after 5pm until August 31. You’ll even get a slice of their scrummy Daim cake for pudding.
Until the end of August you can also skip the breakfast rush and grab a coffee and a hot drink for just 95p, Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 11.00am. And IKEA family members can enjoy a cake and tea or filter coffee for £1.50, Monday to Friday between 3pm and 5pm. Tempting right?
After fuelling up on tasty food, you and the kids can get those creative juices flowing with some arts and crafts. Little ones can make their own IKEA furniture with playdough in the messy modelling workshop, or transform a REGOLIT lamp shade into a hanging hot air balloon bedroom decoration.
Why not continue with the theme of things that fly and join the kite-making workshop? Using leftover IKEA fabrics, this activity is a great way to encourage kids to find fun in unexpected places, as well as letting them put their design skills to use.
Let the kids continue their interior design adventure and decorate their very own dream house. On a special cardboard template they can run free with the colouring pens and put their unique stamp on their creation.
They can even get inspiration for their dream home decor by playing ‘guess what’s in the storage box’. In this blindfolded challenge they will use their senses to guess what IKEA goodies they can feel. Then you can head to the lucky dip and pick out a surprise item to take home for keeps.
Kids love nothing more than getting messy, but for the sake of the carpets we avoid it where possible. Take them to the finger painting workshop to get their fix of uninhibited paint pouring then pop-in for a free facepaint.
Once in character, they can play with the other kids and enjoy a big game of ‘the floor is lava’, hopping over the stepping stones and burning off some energy. There will also be a bubble station where kids can make their own bubble solution and blowing wands to take home. That’s maximum fun for them and zero cleaning up for you!
And to relax and decompress after all that play there will be a special finger puppet story time. Kids can visit the pop-up theatre to watch and even partake in readings of their favourite books.
As well as these super-fun activations, there will be a range of ‘always on’ activities, running everyday throughout the IKEA Summer Funhouse period. Let the kids loose on a Jungle Quest, the self-led treasure hunt in search of hidden animal toys or enter them into a drawing competition. There will be a prize for the best entry!
