If there’s one thing that can lure me out of the house during these crisp and dreary autumn days, it has to be a trip to IKEA for their iconic meatballs. For decades, Londoners have collectively trudged through hallowed halls and store displays for a taste of Sweden, but now–drumroll please–London’s first high street IKEA restaurant has opened its doors in Hammersmith.
The days of weaving through the aisles of sleek Scandinavian sofas are behind us, with a much smaller chance you’ll end up with a houseplant and other tchotchkes when all you really wanted was some meatballs.
The First-Ever IKEA Restaurant
This brand-new restaurant is the first time IKEA has created an exclusive dining space, serving up all those drool-worthy favourites that make the brand so beloved. It is located directly next door to the recently revamped Hammersmith city store, so there’s still the option for some furniture shopping if needs be.
The space, formerly home to a Wasabi restaurant, has been decked out in true IKEA fashion to seat 75 diners, and will even provide a wider range of Swedish dishes to celebrate and honour this legendary landmark venture. Of course, you can expect the meatballs (with a plant-based option too), but also pasta, fish and chips, breakfast, and beyond.
Market Manager at IKEA London City, Matthew Gould, said in a statement: “We know how much our customers love the IKEA restaurant and we’re excited to celebrate the opening of our very first high street restaurant.“
“Fans of our delicious dishes can recharge during their shopping trip with our famous Swedish meatballs, pop in for a traditional Swedish ‘fika’ break for coffee and a sweet treat, or find an affordable meal for the kids right on the high street.”
What’s even better, to celebrate this new opening, they will be providing IKEA Family Members £5 off in-store when spending £5 or more at IKEA Hammersmith Restaurant on the same day, until the end of the month concluding on 30th November.
The restaurant is open 8am to 8pm Monday through Friday, 9am to 8pm on Saturdays, and 9am to 4.30pm on Sundays. Breakfast is served until 11am. You can find Hammersmith’s IKEA Restaurant next to their city store at 38 King St, London.
