In the build-up to World Homeless Day on 10 October, HSBC UK sponsored a series of Candlelight concerts delivered by Fever, launching at the Natural History Museum and travelling around the country to end at the incredible Òran Mór in Glasgow. 6 Shows, 6 unique venues, and over 16,000 candles.
As part of the fundraising effort of these concerts, HSBC UK donated the total equivalent of all ticket sales and matched all cash donations received at each concert! On top of this, scented candles were available to purchase on site, with 100% of the generated sales donated directly to Shelter by Fever. Combined, these efforts raised over £82,000 to support Shelter’s work. These funds could help to fund 3 helpline advisers to provide expert advice to a family in urgent need.
Poor financial health and homelessness can often go hand in hand, which is why HSBC UK and Shelter are working together to support people to build financial resilience and help break the vicious circle of homelessness.
Shelter CEO, Polly Neate, put it most clearly, “There are now a record 117,450 homeless households living in temporary accommodation in England – the highest figure ever and up 12% in a year. This takes a devastating toll on the lives of both children and adults. The scale of this crisis means that our emergency support and advice are needed more than ever. We are so grateful to HSBC UK and Fever for hosting these magical events to raise much needed funds for Shelter, Shelter Scotland and Shelter Cymru, to help us continue to provide vital advice to families when they need it the most.”
Luke Harper, Head of Partnerships, HSBC UK, said: ‘“We’re incredibly heartened by the positive response to this first year of Candlelight Concerts – delighting audiences across the UK and shining a light on the vital work Shelter does and raising much needed funds. Thank you to all who helped make it such a resounding success. Home is everything, and together with Shelter we’re committed to helping more individuals and families build financial resilience and break the vicious circle of homelessness.”
Reflecting on the HSBC UK Candlelight series, Ollie Killick, Fever Global Head of Brand Partnerships said “We’re so grateful to work alongside HSBC UK to support their efforts in aid of Shelter. This concert series has allowed us to bring music with a purpose to our Candlelight audiences at awe-inspiring venues like the Natural History Museum and Òran Mór. This partnership will go down in Candlelight history.”
On behalf of HSBC UK, Shelter and Fever thank you to anyone who joined us at these very special evenings.
