Creeps up on you, does it not? One minute you’re in the pits of January, pining for the scorching sunlight and festival season to come over to you– then it comes… a moment, usually in May. A moment where the clouds separate and this (at times) godforsaken city seems liveable, even (dare I say it) loveable.
Well, that’s all happening this week. It’s been sensationally pleasant in the capital city as we enjoy the first real good spell of 2024, and it’s all set to culminate in what’s expected to be the hottest day of the year so far.
According to the trusty Met Office, temperatures could reach a maximum 26°C in London by tomorrow (May 11), giving us a spark and a fury to go out to grab ‘the weekend’ by the scruff of its neck and make sure we don’t take these sparkling conditions for granted.
London is currently hotter than Ibiza and will be throughout the weekend (the Spanish island will only hit hights of 22°C), so there’s no better time to go out and party in the city. Temperatures this week have bettered the previous hottest day of 2024, which was recorded in April as the mercury soared to 21°C.
Warm spells are continuing through the weekend, with highs of 24°C also expected in London on Sunday (May 12), but next week they are set to fall slightly, with highs of 18°C on the cards. Still, we can’t really ask for much better at this time of year, and we can hope that this continues through the month and into the month of June when summer truly gets going in the city.
Keep up to date with accurate weather reporting at the Met Office site, which can be subject to sudden change.
