The picture-perfect neighbourhood of Primrose Hill has become even more delicious, with another drool-worthy restaurant opening up and already cooking up a storm, causing quite the buzz in the Camden area. But this restaurant is a little different, as every dish is served up with a purpose and for an excellent cause.
Putting social impact front and centre, Home Kitchen is a unique, fine-dining restaurant that’s on a mission to tackle homelessness head-on, by offering employment and training to those who have experienced life on the streets.
The not-for-profit concept will be tended to by Michelin-starred chef Adam Simmonds, with the project boasting pop-up foundations that unfortunately fell through. However, they have now officially opened their first-ever brick-and-mortar location in London, taking on a lengthy fourteen year lease in Primrose Hill. They are also opening up two more locations across the globe in the near-distant future, one nearby in Brighton and the other state-side in San Francisco.
Luckily for us, that permanent location is officially open on Regent’s Park Road, offering both an a la carte and a six-course tasting menu, with fantastic dishes like lamb belly with thyme and mackerel with apple and cucumber. However, don’t forget about their decadent desserts, like the egg custard tart with rhubarb and nutmeg ice cream. There’s even a cracking Sunday lunch menu if you’re looking for a brand-new hotspot to treat yourself at the end of the week.
The restaurant’s staff are individuals who come from vulnerable backgrounds who are/have been homeless, all receiving intensive training, support, and opportunities to gain qualifications in the hospitality industry. Plus, all employees are paid the London Living Wage and are provided with travel cards to support their journey to independence.
Home Kitchen’s wider aim is to reshape public perceptions of homelessness, showing that with the right support, people can turn their lives around. This makes it more than just a place to eat; it’s a movement to change lives while serving up delicious seasonal dishes in the process.
