Come Christmas time, there are certain films that you’ll find playing on repeat on screens across the country and the globe. I’m talking about the likes of It’s A Wonderful Life, Elf, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and even sometimes Die Hard. But perhaps the most iconic holiday film of them all is the Macaulay Culkin-helmed, hijinks-packed Home Alone. And this Christmas time, you can enjoy this film in spectacular fashion at the ‘Home Alone in Concert’ performances.
From December 6-13, the Royal Albert Hall will be screening the film in their jaw-dropping venue. But they’re not stopping at just showing the movie. Instead, the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and the Crouch End Festival Chorus are taking to the stage to soundtrack the entire thing.
The story of a boy left home alone (get it now?) at Christmas will come to life thanks to the live performances. As you watch Kevin McCallister defend his home from two bumbling thieves, composer John Williams’ score will swell with the power that only a live orchestra can provide.
It’s a film ripe for live performance, too. In fact, the film received two Academy Awards® nominations for its music: for Best Original Score and Best Original Song for ‘Somewhere in My Memory’. (It lost out to Dances with Wolves for the former, and Dick Tracy‘s ‘Sooner or Later (I Always Get My Man)’ for Best Original Song. To be fair, Madonna did perform the latter…)
And don’t worry, they’re not silencing the film for the performance! The original dialogue will still play out, with subtitles on screen to ensure you don’t miss a single iconic line.
