What can you expect on the Halloween at Kew light trail?
Feeling brave? As if you have stumbled into the pages of a gothic novel, this illuminated trail is packed with haunted happenings and eerie encounters that will have you jumping away screaming one second and standing hypnotised the next. On this wondrous wander through the gardens, you’ll come across all manner of mysterious scenes, including a variety of new attractions: a Cursed Tomb guarded by an ancient mummy, a witch concocting a spell over her bubbling cauldron and Dracula lurking in the dark shadows of his lair.
Each spine-tingling scene is bathed in unearthly neon colour, with the vibrant lights darkening the shadows and transforming something as ordinary as bare tree branches into monstrous claws. It’s clearly not just the witch casting spells. Plus, if you’re worried about straying from the path, talented fire performers will add an extra dash of illuminating drama to your journey while glowing pumpkins help light the way.
It’s not all screams and shudders. The twisting trail will come to a dazzling climax at the brand-new Monster Disco. There you can hit the dance floor to show off your best zombie-style moves under glittering skull-shaped mirror balls.
Will there be food and drink?
Jump scares and moonlit meandering can be thirsty work. Luckily, Halloween at Kew keeps visitors fueled up with a tempting variety of seasonal food and drink. Dig into freaky fries or, for the sweet tooth, toasted monster marshmallows, and banish the chill with deliciously rich hot chocolate or hot toddies.
What time is best for me?
If you’re looking to visit but not sure how much frightful fun you or your little ones can handle, they have divided the sessions into three categories to help you pick the right one:
- Daylight: Sessions up to 6pm, ideal for families with younger children.
- Twilight: Sessions between 6pm and 7.30pm; this is when the spooks and scares start to level up.
- Moonlight: Sessions after 7.30pm, with all daylight gone, this is the spookiest time to visit, but still ultimately suitable for all ages.
