I know it’s sometimes hard to believe, but there is actually a whole lot more to London than skyscrapers, smoggy air, and stroppy commuters. And there are, in fact, plenty of spots in the city to head to if you’re in need of some peace, calm, and a breath of fresh air. This particular spot, for example, sees your fresh air, and raises you free entry, farm animals, and some flipping great food. What more could you ask for, hey?
Hackney City Farm
Located in the heart of – you guessed it – Hackney; this gorgeous city farm is home to an array of outrageously cute farm animals including ducks, pigs, goats, donkeys, chickens, and sheep. It’s completely free to enter, and is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of London life. Because, believe me, it’s pretty darn difficult to feel stressed and grumpy when you’re surrounded by frolicking farm animals.

Alongside the abundance of animals, Hackney City Farm also has a volunteer-run garden full of vegetables, herbs and flowers, and plenty of other incredible things going on. They’re passionate about improving the world around us and enriching urban life, and they run a whole host of workshops throughout the year – giving visitors (big and small) the opportunity to learn about nature, plants, food, and the environment. The space can also be privately hired for birthdays and weddings. Consider my dream wedding venue officially found…
Frizzante Restaurant
Once you’ve finished wandering around the farm, we’d highly recommend you hotfooting it straight in the direction of Frizzante. The farm’s on-site eatery provides a little slice of Italy in the heart of the capital, and offers the perfect setting for some post-farm refreshment.
The menu is full of delicious dishes made using fresh, seasonal, and locally-sourced ingredients. And you can enjoy their offering al-fresco when the sun is shining (but don’t worry if it’s not; the inside is pretty dreamy, too). Every Thursday, Frizzante also serves up an extra-special ‘agriturismo’ dinner, complete with live music.
You’ll find Hackney City Farm at 11a Goldsmiths Row, E2 8QA. Find out more and plan your visit here. The farm if free to visit, but as a small community charity, they welcome donations and volunteers.
