Greggs has become something of a institution in Britain; with no one shy to confess their undying infatuation with their sausage rolls and steak bakes. And, a store slap bang in the middle of London – in the mighty Leicester Square, no less – testifies to just that.
Today, the chain bakery opened their biggest store, and to celebrate they hosted a dazzling premiere on the opening day of their brand new flagship.
1 Leicester Square is where you’ll find the new store, and at 11:30am this morning, drag sensation and Greggs superfan Pasty Kween was on hand to give it the grandest of openings that it deserved, wearing a stunning Greggs dress.
There was also be a red blue carpet (it’s Greggs, after all) rolled out for the occasion, creating the feel of a bougie film premiere, in a historic location. Influencers Kate Ovens and Bryony Morganna were also around to get some snaps in satin gowns and pick up their sausage roll, which the first 200 people in the store could also get their hands on for free!
Alongside the humungous Greggs, the brand – which began life in Newcastle – is planning to open a bucketload of new stores in the capital and the rest of the UK, with the flagship creating 55 new jobs in the area (and plenty of fuel for peckish Londoners).
A spokesperson for Greggs said: “The opening of our new flagship shop at 1 Leicester Square is a huge moment for Greggs. Today’s excitement has shown this iconic location will be a success to both Greggs fans, and new customers alike. And who knows, we might even be welcoming A-list stars for a pre-premiere snack in the near future.”
