Delightful Greenwich Market is now trading again.
A day spent in Greenwich – preferably with a trip in the front seat of the DLR – is one of London’s single greatest pleasures. But whilst you’ve been able to gaze over Canary Wharf from the top of Greenwich Park during lockdown, you haven’t been able to indulge in the foodie delights of Greenwich Market. Until today. The famed market is back in business from today (Thursday June 11), but as with other returning markets, there will be a few changes in place.
Chief amongst these is the fact that only a small part of Greenwich Market will be reopening: the open-air section which branches off of the cul-de-sac Durnford Street. As such, only a handful of traders will be returning at present, but for those who’ve been living off pasta for the last few months, they’re the most welcome returnees, as they’re all street food traders like Andes Empanadas and Ehla Eats.
The market has new opening hours upon reopening, and will operate from 10am to 4:30pm from Thursday to Sunday. Greenwich Market has also invited customers to maintain social distancing, and follow market signs to avoid congregating in enclosed areas. One final thing to note: there won’t be any seating for you, as hot and cold street food is available for takeaway only. Still, after months without a good empanada, this reopening is very welcome indeed – and will hopefully signal the return of more traders before long.
