In recent years, the negative effects of over-purchasing, fast fashion, and wasteful practices have become more widely known. As a result, there has been a clear shift towards focusing on vintage and second-hand purchases. Fortunately, London boasts a wealth of flea markets and charity shops for those looking to hunt for a second-hand bargain. (After all, second-hand may be better for the environment, but it sure doesn’t hurt that you’ll often bag a discount, too!) Perhaps one of the cutest flea markets around is Go East Vintage, which takes place regularly at the historic Hackney Depot.
Looking to rummage through some trinkets and doo-dads? Or are you searching for the perfect lamp or side table to complete your living room? Perhaps you’re on the hunt for a statement piece to complete your wardrobe? Regardless of what you’re after, Go East Vintage has you sorted.
Go East Vintage hosts regular flea markets at Hackney Depot, a disused bus garage that is as much of a draw as the market itself. There’s something so perfect about hosting a flea market, a celebration of bringing new life to old objects, in a historic space and transforming it into something new.
The Hackney Depot oozes character to complement the vibes of the flea market. As a plus, it’s just down the street from the iconic London Fields Broadway Market. You can make a day of it with some street food, vintage shopping, book browsing, pint-sipping, and park picnicking. You’ll hardly have to travel more than a five-minute walk in any direction!
Founders Louisa and Onur hand-pick the traders to create a “complete vintage experience”. With Go East Vintage, their mission is to bring Londoners “a shopping experience [that is] fun, sociable, eco-friendly and [brings] communities and traders back together.”
Go East Vintage
Go East Vintage is launching a brand new market in a former Victorian tannery next month, just steps from Tower Bridge. The ‘Ugly Duck Flea‘ will feature a bar, DJs, and plenty of vintage goods to sift through. Plus, it couldn’t be any easier to get to, since it’s right next to Borough Market. Why not head along for a day of flea-market shopping and street food munching?
Go East Vintage currently has three markets coming up in April. These are:
- Go East Vintage Fashion Market – Sunday, April 13 (Hackney Depot)
- Go East Vintage Flea – Sunday, April 27 (Hackney Depot)
- Ugly Duck Flea – Sunday, May 4 (49 Tanner Street)
Tickets to the markets are just £2. However, if you want first dibs, you can pay an extra £2 for early access and get into the market at 10am, before everyone else.
