We all thought that the run up to Christmas couldn’t get any more exciting. We were wrong. Because from today, November 11, the public will be welcomed to don their skates and take to the ice at Glide at Battersea Power Station – London’s only riverside ice rink.
Skaters at Glide can practice their pirouettes on the three interconnecting ice rinks with a 30ft Christmas tree at its centre, just in case the view of the power station didn’t quite bowl you over enough. You might be on a skate-date; you might be using the giant new rink as a way to hone your skills; or you might be taking your children out for their first lessons on the ice on your family day out — whatever the occasion, Glide will ensure the cold doesn’t bother you anyway.
Last winter may have marked the final year of the stunning Natural History Museum ice rink, but the same team behind both that and Hyde Park Winter Wonderland are those that are delivering Glide – it’s safe to say we’re in good hands skates.
So, you can bet your bottom dollar that the activities off the rink are just as enticing (sorry) as those on it. Admire the spectacular view from up high on a vintage fairground ride, or grab yourself a mulled wine and hunker down in a cosy cabin. There will also be a festive photo booth and a fantastic line-up of live entertainment to keep everyone’s Christmas spirits flying high.
Any Christmas shopping you’ve got to do, however late, can be swiftly completed after a spin around the ice, too; with spots in the power station and on the new Electric Boulevard on hand to serve all your gifting needs.
You’ll even find a fantastic pop-up experience by Jo Malone. As the exclusive partner of Glide at Battersea, Jo Malone will offer interactive workshops and limited edition gifts. Shoppers can browse festive fragrances and candles, complete with bespoke gift-wrapping and personalised embossing. Then round things off with a cocktail at Glide bar, inspired by the limited edition White Moss and Snowdrop scent!
And if you’ve worked up an appetite after your skating sesh, Battersea Power Station’s stellar selection of food vendors will be on hand to provide you with a warming, tasty morsel or two. Explore the likes of Le Bab, Where The Pancakes Are, Poke House, Roti King, Vagabond Wines and many, many more.
That’s quite enough skating puns for one article, now: get down to Glide at Battersea Power Station this winter and have an ice tim- oh, for goodness sake.
Glide will reside at Battersea Power Station between November 11 – January 8, 2023.
