On any boat, there’s bound to be plenty of code speak that only the crew will be aware of. Pieces of eight, seaward ho!, ‘x’ marks the spot — that kind of thing.
But, the characters in Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island definitely never had a codeword as good as this: on a London boat this weekend, the phrase “bubbles for the boat” will get you a free glass of bubbly.
To celebrate National Prosecco Day on Saturday (August 13), GoBoat is offering is offering all guests a free drink when they hit the waters. The eco-electric boat company is handing out cans of free prosecco to anyone who knows the password, and soft drinks for the designated drivers (one per group must volunteer) of each boat.
Those heading out to the waters at Canary Wharf or Birmingham Brindleyplace on Saturday can cash the offer in, and you can book your boat now at the GoBoat website.
One can of prosecco will be given out to each person in the group (minus the designated driver), and those who look under-25 will need to show ID to receive their tipple. With the forecast looking pretty eye-watering tomorrow, guests are advised to drink plenty of water, wear a hat and use sun-screen before heading out on the waters. Remember, “bubbles for the boat” is the password.
Oh, and don’t forget the anthem out on the boat:
🎵 15 men on the Dead Man’s Chest. Yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum can of prosecco! 🎵
