The Rainbow Collective have organised free outdoor screenings of West Side Story and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as part of their ‘Films For Food’ initiative.

All you have to do is show up with a food bank donation, sit back, and enjoy the al fresco movie magic. As part of the East End Film Festival West Side Story will be shown at 7pm on Friday 2nd and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at 1.30pm on Saturday 3rd.

We’ve found the perfect alternative to the hoards of pricey outdoor cinema screenings taking place across the capital this summer. ‘Films For Food’ gives you a chance to experience all the fun of an outdoor film for a fraction of the price. Oh, and did we mention you’ll also be helping your local food bank?

[First Love Foundation]
Every day, food bank usage is rising, with new statistics showing that there are 651 formerly unaccounted-for food banks operating across the UK. This crisis is certainly not one to ignore, so an opportunity to help your community – whilst also enjoying two classic musical films – should really be jumped at.

The screenings will take place at Old Spitalfields Market, Brushfield Street, London, E1 6AA and are free to anyone who brings along a donation of non-perishable food for Tower Hamlets Foodbank. You can check their list of in-demand items for inspiration here.
