Al fresco movie nights have returned to London, with Everyman on the Canal having made a much-anticipated return to King’s Cross. The beloved open-air cinema experience is treating us to lazy summer evenings spent lounging on the canal-side stairs watching blockbuster flicks, sports screenings, and performances. Oh – and the best part? It’s absolutely free to enjoy!
Everyman on the Canal kicked off its summer season of film on June 29 with a screening of Top Gun and a live DJ Yoda set, complete with live visuals by the water. And now, they’re bringing a summer-long celebration of film, sport, and culture to King’s Cross.
And sure, we all know the British summer is pretty unpredictable, but that shouldn’t stop you! Who knows – maybe you prefer your movie with a light drizzle and a mac? Or maybe you’d like to cosy up as a cool evening breeze blows and the sun starts to set? As for us, we’ll spring for the heat and the sunshine.
What movies will be showing?
Sometimes when something is free, it’s simply too good to be true. What if they’re only screening boring movies, or flicks you have no interest in seeing? But that’s not the case at Everyman on the Canal. The PACKED programme of screenings features something for everyone, ranging from recent releases to movie classics and family favourites.

- and more…
As well as the movies, there are also daily live screenings of Wimbledon – with the requisite strawberries and cream, of course.
The screening experience is also hosting special takeovers from community cinemas and art galleries for unique events.
As if that wasn’t enough, Everman has also unveiled a menu of summer treats to enjoy at the screenings. These range from ice cream sundaes to “everything” topped popcorn, summer cocktails and spritzes, and more.
This year, Everyman on the Canal has a unique new identity, courtesy of Central Saint Martins graduate Alice Wilson. Alice has created a special design for the screen itself, as well as the sweet boxes.
How to watch free films at Everyman on the Canal
Wondering how it all works? There are no tickets, and no virtual queues. There isn’t even an online form to fill in. You just have to turn up!
However, there is limited space, and the events operate on a first-come, first-served basis. So you’ll want to arrive with plenty of time to spare!
