Hackney’s swimmers will have to wait just that bit longer to take a dip in the glorious London Fields Lido for Hackney’s swimmers.
The 50 metre outdoor swimming pool was closed at short notice back in early April, after problems were found with the tiled lining. At the time, it was described as a rush effort to get things up and running for summer – a deadline that technical complications have, alas, blown right past. [Header photo: Peter Smith]
But its latest re-opening date, September 30, has been pushed back too. This time, sheepish organisers are choosing not to announce a new date until every last tile is firmly in place, but acknowledge that it could be a few more weeks.
But even as the weather gets colder, the east London lido has one killer feature: it’s heated! Set to a temperature of 25℃, it’s perfect for a refreshing swim year-round, whatever the weather. Like these hardy souls taking a January morning dip:
Plus, during our long winter nights, the lido is floodlit, so you can backstroke beneath the stars. (I mean, obviously you can’t see the stars, but you get the idea.)
While contractors have been repairing the pool itself, they’ve also taken the opportunity to refurbish the changing rooms and other facilities during the closure, so it should really be Quite Nice on opening day, whenever that is. Check on their website for details at some point?
