Here’s another glorious London celebration to add to your calendar, to ensure you make the most of the city’s tapestry of multicultural celebration. An enormous Diwali festival will touch down in the middle of the city later this month, for one day only, and it’s completely FREE to visit. That’s right, folks, Diwali on the Square is back for 2026 – and it’s promising plenty of festivity and celebration.
Diwali on the Square will take over Westminster’s Trafalgar Square on October 25 for an afternoon-long celebration of the Festival of Lights.
Londoners are invited to join the celebrations – no ticket required – for “a joyful day of light, hope, and unity.”

The event will feature live performances, activities, workshops, market stalls, street food, and more. Among the event’s offerings are:
- “a colourful opening dance sequence with 200 dazzling dancers”
- “a main stage showcasing music, dance, and performances from London’s Hindu, Sikh, and Jain communities”
- “family-friendly activities like sari and turban tying, yoga, meditation, puppet shows, and dance workshops”
- “a bustling market and food stalls offering tasty vegan and vegetarian treats.”
The annual London event is one of the biggest Diwali celebrations outside of India. In a video of last year’s celebrations, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan comments:
This is one of the reasons why I love London. We don’t just tolerate our differences, we celebrate them.
You can be proudly British and proudly Hindu. You can be a proud Londoner and celebrate Diwali.
Every day all across London, there are Hindus, Sikhs and Jains putting the principles of their faith into practice and making our city a better, brighter place.
So as mayor, I want to say thank you for all you do to make London the greatest city in the world. Never forget you’re loved and wanted here. Happy Diwali.
