Boutique wine bar Diogenes the Dog are taking care of your wine needs.
Naturally, there are plenty of ways to get your alcohol during lockdown, but few are quite so hassle-free as the new offering from Elephant & Castle wine bar and shop Diogenes The Dog. They’ve launched a new neighbourhood wine subscription service, which allows you to set up a subscription, forget about it, and then be pleasantly surprised when a hamper of wine and other goodies arrives on your doorstep.
This is the ‘Weekly Wine Drop’, an excellent invention which is recommended for “small to medium wine and cheese-loving households”, and will set you back £38 per week. (If you choose to interpret “small” as “one person”, we certainly won’t condemn you for it.) The wine drop includes a bottle of white, a bottle of red, half a loaf of artisan white sourdough, a cheese of the week, and one snack of the week, which could be anything from terrines to jams to home-made treats. Plenty to fuel you during the lockdown, in other words.
Diogenes the Dog also offer longer-term options, with the ‘Monthly Staple’ recommended as a “monthly wine treat” at £60 per month, and ‘The Larder Filler’ – which includes four bottles of wine, plus burrata and honey – an altogether boujier offering at £155 per month. I don’t think you can really go wrong with any of them, to be perfectly honest, but the attraction of wine arriving on my doorstep every week is a temptation that’ll prove very hard to resist…
