Who expected to find one of London’s most romantic restaurants beneath a staircase?
Great things come from under the stairs; just look at Harry Potter. And now, something special is happening under the most famous set of stairs in London, as the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel are setting up a dining table beneath their extremely ‘gram-friendly staircase. Aside from being hella romantic, it’s also possibly your only chance to dine on the set of a Spice Girls music video, so we’d advise you to hop all over this one.
The double staircase has been a feature of the hotel since opening in 1873, and was designed to be wide enough to let ladies in ballgowns pass each other without incident. Fancy, indeed, and the modern experience is no different; you’ll be enjoying a four-course gourmet menu created by the hotel’s Executive Chef Adam Ashe. Before that, though, there’s a champagne and canapés reception, and a complimentary wine flight to pair with each course.
Said courses include Devon crab cakes with smoked paprika mayonnaise, slow-cooked beef cheek with all the trimmings, and sticky date pudding followed by a selection of British cheeses. Plus, you get to sign the hotel’s guest book upon finishing! The only drawback to the whole affair is – naturally – the price; at £155 per person, this falls firmly in the ‘special occasions’ category (doubly so if you plump for the bookable opera performances, which push it north of £600). Still, if it’s good enough for the Spice Girls, it’s good enough for you!
