Für alle Shakespeare-Liebhaber und angehenden Schauspieler wird nächstes Jahr in Shoreditch ein neuer kultureller Hotspot eröffnet, der einen unvergleichlichen Einblick in das London von Shakespeare bietet. Das Museum of Shakespeare wird einen wahrhaft tiefen Einblick in die Welt des Barden bieten und befindet sich auf den archäologischen Überresten des Curtain Theatre, das stolz ausgestellt werden wird.
Dieses ikonische elisabethanische Theater soll Shakespeares geliebte Stücke Romeo und Julia und Heinrich V. uraufgeführt haben und ist damit das perfekte Herzstück für dieses neue Museum.
Das Museum für Shakespeare
Das Curtain Playhouse wurde erstmals 1577 urkundlich erwähnt und war zu Shakespeares Lebzeiten ein wichtiges kulturelles und soziales Zentrum Londons. Das Theater war der wichtigste Schauplatz für seine Stücke, bevor Ende des 16. Jahrhunderts das Globe eröffnet wurde, und dieses brandneue Museum soll dieses fabelhafte Stück Geschichte schützen und bewahren.
Das Museum of Shakespeare zeigt die Überreste des Theaters in einer prächtigen Ausstellung und ist das stolze Zuhause eines von nur zwei denkmalgeschützten Gebäuden im Londoner Stadtbezirk Hackney. Das Museum wurde so gestaltet, dass es den archäologischen Überresten des Theaters, von denen man einst annahm, sie seien kreisförmig, nun aber rechteckig und mit einer langen Bühne ausgestattet, gerecht wird.
Man kann sogar über eine schwebende gläserne Aussichtsplattform über den archäologischen Überresten gehen, die den Besuchern eine einzigartige Perspektive bietet, um diese Zeit zum Leben zu erwecken.
Shoreditch verwandeln
Es ist jedoch nicht nur die brandneue Ausstellung, die für Aufsehen sorgt, sondern das gesamte Projekt hat das Viertel Shoreditch mit einigen neuen Funktionen und öffentlichen Einrichtungen völlig verändert.
Sunand Prasad, Direktor des Bauunternehmens Perkins&Will, sagte dazu:„Das Stage-Projekt ist ein großartiges Beispiel für die intelligente Entwicklung eines Stadtviertels, um einen zugänglichen, durchlässigen und attraktiven Raum zu schaffen, der von den Menschen genutzt und genossen werden kann. Gebaute Schichten aus mehreren Jahrhunderten, die nun wiederverwendet werden, wurden mit umfangreichen neuen flexiblen Mischnutzungsflächen verwoben , die sich um einen öffentlichen Platz gruppieren, um den größten öffentlichen Raum zu schaffen, den es in Shoreditch je gab.“
„Die entdeckten Überreste des Curtain Theatre aus dem16. Jahrhundert, dem ersten Shakespeare-Theater Londons, die in einem neuen Gebäude ausgestellt sind, das selbst ein Amphitheater bildet, verleihen diesem neuen Ort für das geschäftige Viertel eine zusätzliche magische Dimension.“
Neben dem begrünten öffentlichen Platz, einem Amphitheater und einem kleinen Park/Spielplatz über einem restaurierten viktorianischen Eisenbahnviadukt bietet das Projekt auch über 221.000 Quadratmeter modernen Arbeitsraum in zwei Bürogebäuden sowie 412 Wohnungen, 39.000 Quadratmeter Geschäfte, Restaurants und Bars.
