David Bowie‘s death is one of those ‘you remember where you were when it got announced’ moments, and it’s hard to believe that it’s now been more than 10 years since it happened (January 10, 2016).
To commemorate the artist and his many different eras as well as his seismic cultural impact, The British Library are hosting ‘David Bowie In Time’ on Saturday, January 17, 2026, welcoming fans of Bowie to celebrate his life. It’ll take the form of a “gathering of musicians, writers, filmmakers, artists and critics reflects on pivotal moments across his kaleidoscopic career and his own fascination with time”.

Now… we have good news and bad news for those hoping to attend. You’ve missed the boat if you hope to attend in person, since tickets are now sold out. HOWEVER, you can still livestream the event, which runs all day, with tickets still available to purchase, meaning you can tune into the tributes to the Starman.
David Bowie In Time
On the lineup, you can expect to see a performance of David Bowie in Time: Just A Cabaret, which will be made up by an evening of musical performances at the library’s hall. You can see founding member of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds Blixa Bargeld perform songs from Blixa Sings David Bowie alongside his bandmember and composer Nikko Weidermann, former Savages frontwoman Jehnny Beth, and pianist Daniel Brandt.

Jehnny Beth will also perform a selection of Bowie numbers, which will be, as she has described, her most intimate performance of 2026. Also included in the programme of the day, Jehnny Beth will also introduce a session that features Mary Anne Hobbs speaking about Bowie’s final album, Blackstar, to jazz saxophonist Donny McCaslin, who led the band on the record, as well as Jonathan Barnbrook, who designed its album artwork.
Also featured is a conversation between legendary producer Tony Visconti, who worked on Bowie’s famous Berlin trilogy of albums as well as Blackstar, with Nicholas Pegg, author of The Complete David Bowie. This comes just ahead of Just A Cabaret, which will be the final performance of the day. You can read the programme in full here.
Those who are attending in person can rock up from 10:30am to enjoy a full day of tributes. If you’re tuning in remotely, you can do so from 12:15pm, with the stream showing everything taking place apart from the screening of Five Years at the very beginning of the programme, and the closing performance of the day.
‘David Bowie In Time’ takes place at The British Library on Saturday, January 17, 2026. In-person tickets are sold out, but you can still attend online to watch the performances. Find out more information here.
