Recent research, carried out by Lime, has revealed that Londoners are bonkers for a bakery. No surprise there of course, but what might raise some eyebrows is that 23% of Londoners would prefer to meet their friends for coffee and a pastry, rather than a pint at the pub.
One in three Londoners visit a bakery every single weekend, 25% of which do so by bike. So, what does one do after drawing such conclusions? Launch a cycle-thru bakery, of course. From today (September 6), cyclists can visit the UK’s first ever ride-thru bakery – with none other than London favourite, Pophams.
It’s no secret that the popularity of cycling and bakeries have both boomed this year, so this is a perfect marriage of things. According to Lime‘s research, Londoners are happy to travel far and wide to visit a bakery they’ve seen on social media, and would gladly stand in a queue for up to 40 minutes.
The Lime-thru bakery hopes to eradicate the queuing, at least for a weekend, whilst bringing together this almighty love of bikes and bakes. Customers can cycle up to the service hatch in Shoreditch, where they can grab a complimentary coffee to go, along with a lime flavoured pastry (naturally), designed by Pophams Bakery. The limited edition pastry is filled with lime curd, white chocolate cremeux and moist coconut sponge, and topped with Italian meringue and a dusting of matcha. Anyone who visits will also get a free 15-minute Lime ride to get them to their next destination.
While the USP is the ride-thru experience, there is also the option to eat in, with a custom-built Lime bike coffee bar and plenty of comfy sofas inside.
The only small catch is that, in order to claim a complimentary coffee, pastry, and 15-minute Lime ride, you must download and create an account on the Lime app.
The Lime-thru Bakery will only be open from September 6-8, between 9am and 1pm. Find it at Protein Studios, 31 New Inn Yard, London, EC2A 3EY.
