Look, I know none of us are really mentioning it, or anything. But it’s gotten a little bit toasty in London lately, hasn’t it? And despite the fact that we hot-and-bothered Londoners are trying every trick in the book to stay as cool as a cucumber; the vast majority of us are resembling something slightly more similar to a tomato. So, I think there’s only one thing for it. Grab your goggles and your swimming cozzies, folks – we’re off to one of the best water parks in the country.
Coral Reef Waterworld, Bracknell
Coral Reef Waterworld is a squeal-inducingly thrilling water park within touching splashing distance of the capital city. Boasting a rather impressive interactive activity offering, Coral Reef is home to a whopping 5 water slides. Each of them vary in speed and scariness – so, whether you’re a certified thrill-seeker or a more relaxed-slider; one of them is sure to float your boat. And whilst we’re on the subject of floating boats, now might be a good time to mention that there’s also a humongous pirate ship in the middle of the pool here, too. But more on that later…
Slide-wise there’s something for everyone: Aqua Splash is a gentle ride that’s perfect for younger kids; the Storm Chaser rocks you from side to side like a ship in choppy waters; Maelstrom is a ride of two halves – luring riders into a false sense of security before revealing the twists, turns, crazy cones, and cascading waters; Poseidon’s Peril will send you swirling, twirling, and whirling through rings of light; and the Cannon does what it says on the tin really – it’ll fling you out like a ball from a cannon at high-speed. Some of the slides are customisable too, so you can choose your colour and sounds combinations as you whizz down the chutes.
Each of the slides eventually leads to the leisure pool, which is also filled to the brim with fun. This is where you’ll find the aforementioned pirate ship alongside the likes of rapids, fountains, a bubble pool, a dedicated kids area, a lazy river, and even an erupting volcano. Because, why not?
Splishing, splashing, slipping, and sliding is certainly thirsty work. So it’s pretty handy that there’s a beach hut on the edge of the pool serving up a variety of drinks and snacks. And for the grown-ups, there’s also the calming adults-only spa – which offers the perfect antidote to the chaos of the water park that it shares a roof with. Inside the spa, you’ll find 3 saunas, a steam room, a pool, and plenty of heated loungers. If you did fancy a little go on the Cannon, though, we certainly wouldn’t blame you. And use of the pool and slides is included in your spa ticket, so you really can have the best of both worlds.
Getting to Coral Reef Waterworld from London
Coral Reef Waterworld is approximately an hour’s drive from London and there’s plenty of parking available once you get there. Non-drivers can hop on a direct train from Clapham Junction to Bracknell and opt for a quick onwards bus or a 30 minute walk from there.
