Chris Pine is swapping the Starship Enterprise for the big stage in London, as he’s been confirmed to make his West End debut in a reworking of Ivanov, a play by Anton Chekhov that first ran in 1887.
Simon Stone will be on directing duty for the production, which kicks off its stint at the Bridge Theatre on Saturday, July 14, 2026, and will run for 11 weeks until Saturday, September 19, 2026. Pine will portray the eponymous Nikolai Ivanov, a man attempting to become unstuck from his problems in life. As of now, there are no other cast members announced.
While its a debut in the West End, it marks a return to the stage for Chris Pine, who prominantly acted on stage prior to his break onto the big screen, though it’s his first time acting on stage in more than 10 years.
It comes hot on the heels of Stone’s production at the Bridge theatre, The Lady On The Sea, which also boasted a star-studded cast with Alicia Vikander and Andrew Lincoln. The same creative team will be working on Ivanov, with Stone joined by Lizzie Clachan on set design, Mel Page on costume design, composition & sound designer Stefan Gregory, lighting designer Nick Schlieper, and Jessica Ronane CDG as casting director.
Speaking on the announcement, Chris Pine said: “I’m delighted to be collaborating with Simon on his new production of Chekhov’s Ivanov. I’m excited to bring this complex character and story to life and to take part in Simon’s singular creative process. It’s been over ten years since I was on stage and to be able to return to it in London at the beautiful Bridge Theatre is a thrill. I can’t wait to start.”
