We all know London is brilliant at keeping secrets. You can live here your whole life and still stumble across a hidden mews or a tiny pub you’ve never noticed. But what about finding a proper Chinese restaurant tucked away (drumroll, please) inside a luxury car showroom?
That’s exactly what’s happening in an unsuspecting building in Marylebone. From the street, you might just see the entrance to an MG car dealer, but inside, you’ll find The Golden Bund. It’s a fantastic Shanghai-style restaurant that shares its space with some seriously wild cars.
A Feast Among the Fast Cars
Let’s talk about the setting. You can literally be eating your lunch while gazing at some proper automotive history and even futuristic concept cars. The showroom is full of them, from classic green convertibles to sleek, bright yellow supercars with doors that open like a butterfly — something any good self-respecting action star would want to be seen in. While the cars themselves might be slightly out of most of our tax brackets, the food is the complete opposite—it’s pretty wallet-friendly. It’s exactly the kind of quirky London mashup we live for.
Now, let’s get to the important bit: the food. They have an amazing offering. The menu has an almost overwhelming amount of choice, so you’re guaranteed to find something you fancy. They do everything from delicious salmon teriyaki bento boxes (which look like a perfect quick lunch if you’re working nearby) to a tangy cucumber salad that’s got a proper kick.
For something really hearty, the glistening braised pork is a must-try. It’s the kind of rich, savoury dish that just melts in your mouth. And, in another classic London twist, there’s even a KBBQ (Korean barbecue) offering there too. So, you can have a wander around Marylebone, maybe pop into Daunt Books, check out some cars, and then sit down for a Korean barbecue. Why not?
But look, if you order one thing, it has to be the handmade wontons. The prawn and pork filling is so plump and juicy, and they come drenched in a delicious chilli oil sauce. They are, as our videographer, Tom, who visited the restaurant, says, “wildly addictive”. You’ll be thinking about them on the Tube ride home, guaranteed.
