We all know that coffee and music go together like toast and butter or sea salt and sunshine. After all, coffee shop music has essentially become its own genre. (Who hasn’t heard the dulcet tones of Bon Iver, Ben Howard, or Norah Jones drifting out of their local cafe?) But one London cafe is going a step further, and inviting the city’s caffeine-heads to sip their java in a special, immersive, music video coffee shop.
Castiglione is a stunning coffee shop. With bright interiors and a stunning retro-futuristic bar that looks more like an enormous artwork than a place to order coffee, it feels closer in spirit to London’s galleries than its coffee shops. But when you wander inside, what catches the eye the most is a wall-dominating screen playing visuals and audio to transport guests away from the hustle and bustle of London.
Castiglione
You’ll find Castiglione tucked away behind the National Gallery, on the innocuous Whitcomb Street. Inside, you can enjoy impeccable coffee, with beans from the award-winning specialty coffee roaster, Origin Coffee. Or you can even grab a glass of champagne or an espresso martini!
Oh, and did we mention that you can take control of the screen inside the cafe? With music videos playing out and filling the cafe with visuals and music, guests can request the music and visuals to take over the screen.
The coffee shop was founded by Roberto, and the name pays homage to his younger days in and around Via Castiglione. They were simpler days; “days spent with the best of company where the conversation was always welcome and the sun always seemed to shine.” And with the cafe, Roberto and the rest of the staff strive to bring that same energy and ambience to London.
The shop also hosts various events – ranging from live music performances to immersive visual displays, run clubs, and wine tastings. Be sure to check out their Instagram to keep up to date.
