If you hadn’t heard that 2022 is the Platinum Jubilee year for Queen Elizabeth II, then a stroll through Carnaby Street should give you a fairly unsubtle hint.
A spectacular crown installation gazing over the junction between Carnaby Street and Ganton Street has just been unveiled, and you can check it out and/or get a snap for the ‘gram with it now.
The crown embellishes Carnaby Street’s signature Union Jack flag, adorned with 30,000 red, white and blue shimmer discs; and topped off with two platinum arches on each end. Almost as if it was fit for a royal…
And, starting on June 2 (the glorious start of the four-day weekend), Carnaby is hosting a plethora of street activities, including live music performances and glitter makeovers. There will also be 1,000 limited edition Jubilee tote bags available through the weekend, 70 of which are filled with brilliant products from Carnaby brands.
Plus, if the big ol’ crown wasn’t enough to mark the occasion, Kingly Street, Newburgh Street and Foubert’s Place will be kitted out in Union Jack coloured lights to symbolise the festivities in the area.
Simon Quayle, Executive Director at Shaftesbury, said: “Shaftesbury are proud to pay homage to this year’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in Carnaby. We hope visitors that come to the area enjoy the new glistening arches and crown installation throughout the Jubilee period.
“With Carnaby being steeped in British heritage it is only right to be part of this iconic celebration. Carnaby brands are also offering an array of discounts and activations which are not to be missed throughout the festivities.”
