Gawping at gorgeous views and bragging about my step count are two activities that make up the majority of the pie chart of things I love to do. And so, having a jaw-droppingly beautiful walking spot in super easy reach of the capital city is pretty handy for me.
Tucked away in the depths of the Surrey countryside is Box Hill. Named after the ancient box woodland found on the steepest west-facing chalk slopes overlooking the River Mole, Box Hill is the summit of the North Downs, and offers some seriously sensational views across the Surrey hills. Just 50 minutes form the Big Smoke; its the perfect spot for day-tripping Londoners to blow away the cobwebs and get their (desperately needed) fresh air fix this winter.

After all that walking, cycling and view-gazing; you’re sure to have worked up quite an appetite. There is also a kiosk offering up sandwiches, baked goods, and hot and cold drinks. Of course, it’s also a gorgeous spot for a picnic, and there’s a pretty decent gastropub nearby called The Stepping Stones, where you can gorge on some pub grub and sink some well-deserved pints whilst warming your cockles.
